I have been pinning a lot of outdoor inspiration lately and I am loving the creative ways people are using outdoor pavers and tile. We currently have an area full of pebbles (used to be for parking) that we would love to remove and lay down sod, but I am thinking this would be an awesome alternative. What do you think?

Happy Sunday morning from the patio garden my friends!!!! The roses are blooming, the lettuce are bolting and the herbs are doing mighty fine! Just out of curiosity, why do you garden? What drives you to the dirt day after day leaving you wanting more at night? For me, gardening is such a huge part of what we do here that I’d be lost without it or the anticipation of it (during the winter months). It keeps me sane especially when the craziness of life persists. It gives me a feeling of control, security and comfort. AND it constantly reminds me of where I come from…my trini roots, my culture and heritage.

We’re expecting!….. A few new beds that is! 😜 Our garden expansion will soon be underway and we’re hoping to add 5 (8 if I’m lucky) new beds to the already existing 23! Our dream of becoming completely self sustainable gets closer every year and though we still rely on our co-op for access to fresh organic produce especially in the off seasons, we’re so happy that we are able to grow most of what we eat. @kel.mcf has all my love for the hard work and dedication he puts into the garden, with my guidance of course, lol! Seriously though, we make the perfect team and rely completely on each other for putting this project together as well as maintaining it.

Have you started your Fall garden seeds as yet? Especially if you live in a colder climate like we do, ones the time to get jiggly with it. @kel.mcf and I got started with our brassicas (including broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, cabbage and bok choi to name a few) about a week ago and covered in mulch in that picture above are some beans we threw down for a September harvest.

The wrap-around bed project is coming along slowly but very steady. We just got done filling in the dirt a few days ago (yay! 👍🏾) but all of my seedlings were lost in the heat-wave (booooo! 👎🏾) This is actually our Fall project that we set a completion time frame of early September so we might just be ahead of the game still though. Let’s see what the next few weeks have to offer! On that note, does anyone have some perennial flower suggestions for this side of the yard? Things are looking better on the side yard (previously the avenue of junk). I spent the better part of yesterday morning pulling some sleazy ground cover (weeds) while there was shade. I even set up an area for past flowering orchids that somehow decide to bloom again. The wall hanging succulents are in wire baskets from the @target dollar bin.
